The Inherit the Winds original TV anime has cast Ryōhei Kimura as Nagakura Shinpachi. The anime will premiere in January 2027 on CBC, TBS, and 26 other affiliated networks, with an early theatrical preview screening in 2026. The story follows a soldier who has lost his memories and is aided by the famous Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji, who names him 'Tachikawa Jinsuke'. Jinsuke's life begins anew amidst the Mibu soldiers. The anime is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura and features a character design by Fumi Ebina, with Shigeru Kishida composing the music. A four-panel manga adaptation will also launch in 2026, drawn by Matsuri Muramatsu. This project is a collaboration between Yutaka Narui and Aniplex, with Narui writing the scripts and Aniplex handling the original story. Narui is a playwright and founder of the theatrical troupe Caramel Box, known for his stage plays themed on the Shinsengumi.
